The FAQ
1. What is the Angel Book of Days?
A quarterly fanfic challenge for Angel (the Series) with a theme of the four seasons of the year.
2. The four seasons? How will that work?
From oldest times, the seasons have provided imagery for art of all kinds. The quarterly challenge is to create a story with the 'feel' of the season we're in, whilst also incorporating the guidelines requested by your allocated 'reader'. The seasonal theme can be considered the background to the tale. It doesn't necessarily have to be the time of year that the story occurs in. The theme can be applied more metaphorically than literally should you wish. For instance, a 'Winter' tale could concern old age. A reader should be able to recognise which season a story connects to.
Note: The northern hemisphere view of the seasons is used throughout this site and challenge. As California is in the Northern Hemisphere, this doesn't seem that unreasonable :-).3. Where can I find information on the seasons?
For each challenge, we will provide links to inspirational material pertaining to the relevant season -- things such as song lyrics, poems, myths and stories. Participants are in no way obliged to read any of this; it's just there for writers seeking inspiration. If you have a good seasonally inspiring link that we don't list, send us a note, and we'll add a link to the page.
4. Do I have to write a specific style of fic to participate?
Aside from AtS fandom, not at all. This challenge is open to gen and ship writers alike, and slash and het stories are equally welcome.
5. What if my 'reader' specifies two characters in their challenge?
While many fic challenges are based on ship writing, this one welcomes gen writers as well. If you dislike the idea of having to write romance or sexually connecting two characters, simply use the 'One Thing I Do Not Wish To Write' part of the sign up form to say so.
6. How do I sign up?
Read up on the current challenge here, and then go and read the rules which tell you how to sign up.
7. What happens to my story once the challenge is over.
The stories for each challenge are archived on this site for anyone to read, where they will remain for as long as the site continues. You are free to post and archive your own story elsewhere as well if you would like to.
8. Do you have buttons we can use to link to your site with?
Yes, a large one...
And a small one...
